This immensely popular children's story is told from the point of view of a dog named Harold. It all starts when Harold's human family, the Monroes, goes to see the movie Dracula, and young Toby accidentally sits on a baby rabbit wrapped in a bundle on his seat. How could the family help but take the rabbit home and name it Bunnicula? Chester, the literate, sensitive, and keenly observant family cat, soon decides there is something weird about this rabbit. Pointy fangs, the appearance of a cape, black-and-white coloring, nocturnal habits … it sure seemed like he was a vampire bunny. When the family finds a white tomato in the kitchen, sucked dry and colorless, well … Chester becomes distraught and fears for the safety of the family. "Today, vegetables. Tomorrow … the world!" he warns Harold. But when Chester tries to make his fears known to the Monroes, he is completely misunderstood, and the results are truly hilarious. Is Bunnicula really a vampire bunny? We can't say. But any child who has ever let his or her imagination run a little wild will love Deborah and James Howe's funny, fast-paced "rabbit-tale of mystery."

Pete and Toby Monroe, along with their parents, Mr. and Mrs. Monroe, are going on vacation, and, thanks for Harold's tendency to get carsick, they have decide to leave both him, and Chester at Chateau Bow-Wow, a supposed four-star hotel for dogs and cats. It seems like a boring place to Harold and Chester, until the first night, when they are trying to get some sleep, and they hear a horrendous howling, causing Chester to rename Chateau Bow-Wow, Howliday Inn. Chester becomes convinced almost instantly that there are werewolves among them at the hotel, and begins investigating. But pretty soon Harold and Chester have even more to investigate, because animals begin disappearing, and there are rumors of murder spreading around. Now it's up to Chester and Harold to solve the case, before their check-out time from Howliday Inn comes sooner than expected.

Howe's sequel to BUNNICULA is as much fun for adults as for children (maybe more)! Chester the cat, Harold the dog, and Howie the puppy set out to save the neighborhood vegetables from a vampire rabbit. Through a series of misunderstandings, what seems impossible suddenly seems likely.

In this further witty adventure of the Bunnicula crowd, Harold and Howie find themselves out in the woods on the one night of the year that evil spirits come out to prey.

Howe here brings back the amusingly articulate cast of animal characters introduced in Bunnicula and later featured in Howliday Inn , The Celery Stalks at Midnight and Nighty-Nightmare . The author generously peppers this caper with his trademark puns and snappy one-liners, which are all the more droll for coming from the mouths of canine narrator Harold, dachshund puppy Howie and quick-thinking Chester the cat. These pets spend the week of their owners' vacation at Chateau Bow-Wow, a boarding kennel where they meet up with Felony and Miss Demeanor, tough-talking "cat burglars"; Bob and Linda, dogs sporting stylish caps; and Hamlet, a melancholy old Great Dane. Convinced that someone is about to do them in, this wacky menagerie masterminds a mass escape from the kennel and manages to reunite Hamlet with his lonely owner. Howe's fans will find this as scrumptiously silly as his critters' earlier adventures.

I was rather pleased with this publication because the story line appealed more to the older Bunnicula stories. The spine tingling events surrounding Bunnicula's mother and *gasp* a trip to the vet all add up to a worth-while read. You'll enjoy some of the old friends that Harold , Howie, and Chester run into along the way. I did buy this book at a higher price at a book store and thought it was well worth it.... If you liked the other stories, you will love the conclusion to the Bunnicula series as it seems to hint that it is.
