How to Register Holland Lops at Shows

Registration of Holland lops is based on the rabbit being purebred and having no disqualifications according to the Holland lop standard.  Rabbits must be presented to an official ARBA registrar and evaluated before they can be registered.

A registrar is available at sanctioned rabbit shows (fair shows are not required to have a registrar).  Before, between, and after shows, you can have your Holland Lops registered.

Be aware that the registrar is probably also showing rabbits, so you will need to coordinate times for the registrar to evaluate your rabbit and tattoo your Holland Lop (this tattoo is different than the ear number tattoo).

The cost is $4 per rabbit and is established by ARBA.  You must be an ARBA member and show your card to the registrar.

You must have a complete three-generation pedigree, including the variety (color and pattern, if broken) plus the weight of each ancestor.  If your rabbit is within weight (2 to 4 pounds), is 6 months of age, has the proper pedigree, and has no disqualifications, your Holland Lop can be registered.

Just because its parents are registered is not an automatic registration qualification for a rabbit.  It must meet qualifications and have no disqualifications in its own right.  On the other hand, the ancestors in the pedigree need not be registered or even free from disqualifications.

First the registrar will check your rabbit thoroughly for disqualifications.  Teeth, eyes, genitals, nails, fur, the works.  Then the  registrar will weigh your rabbit and record the official weight on the registration form.  The you will complete the registration form, including information about ancestors.  The registrar will look over the pedigree to make sure the information is copied correctly onto the registration form, if he or she does not fill that portion out himself.  Finally, your rabbit gets a tattoo in the right ear indicating it has been registered.

The registrar sends the paperwork to ARBA and you receive your certificate in the mail, generally within two to six weeks.
