My Second Best In Show

GC The Nature Trail's May Wins Best In Show In SC

Holland Lop Doe - GC The Nature Trail's MayAugust 6, 2005

Charleston, SC

Judge:  Tim Branham

Though I had a tough time getting to the Charleston show, it was well worth it. Road construction delayed my arrival by almost two hours.  And poor directions to my motel made it even worse.  I barely got there in time to quickly check in and brush my rabbits.

Dandy was BOB in the first show and I granded three home grown senior bucks in one day.  In show B, I won both BOSVs, both BOVs and, of course, the BOS and BOB, which are chosen from those four.

When they called for the BOB rabbits, I tried not to get excited - there were many nice animals on the BIS table.

Tim Branham had apparently narrowed his choices to three.  He kept going back to the same rabbits over and again.  I reminded myself that just because he was looking at those three didn't mean that he hadn't already figured out the BIS and didn't need another look.

But I still was very hopeful.

He announced that three rabbits on the table most represented the standard for the breed.  When he mentioned the Holland lop, I knew she was in the running.

Then the Himalayan was named BRIS.  Either May was going to be an honorable mention or BIS.

I dared to hope but was still surprised and relieved when he announced that the Holland lop was BIS.  I was so excited.

I ran to get my camera and recruited a volunteer to take the photo.  About 20 minutes later, when I calmed down a bit, I went back to ask the show secretary if there was an award for BIS.  "Oh," she said, "I didn't realize you had moved your stuff.  That show table is yours."  I couldn't believe it.  I was in shock again!
