The Nature Trail's IsoldeHolland Lop Broken Black Tortoiseshell Junior Doe
When I was working on these photos, Andrew casually glanced over and asked if this was Rio. When I said no, he then asked who he was. When I said it was a junior doe, he was amazed. She does have a bit of a buck look to her. I guess I'd better re-sex her!
I'd been waiting for a month for Isolde to get old enough to complete. I occasionally have shown juniors as early as 3 1/2 months old, but most are 4 1/2 by the time they are ready. Isolde was 4 months old and definitely ready, winning a BOG over GC The Nature Trail's May. That was some feat. She was beaten out for the BOS by May's daughter Padme.
Isolde is part of a tight breeding project. I'm going to take it as far as I can before, only breeding into the line, but never out of it, until I am able to produce such rabbits on a consistent basis. Or at least, that's my hope.
Right now, I am breeding Isolde's brother Quinten back to their mother Jo-Jo. When Isolde is old enough, she will likely be bred to Mistoffelees first and then Quinten next. Her entire litter is does, so for now, the two bucks from the first litter are the only males from the line that I have. There is one last litter of the same breeding after them, but I haven't sexed them yet.
I don't know how far I will go with the line breeding and inbreeding. I plan to stick with it until I feel the good genes are locked in place and I've gotten all of the good I can from this particular line in my barn.
