Rabbit Color Descriptions – Blue Variety

General Description

The entire rabbit is a rich blue, clear and even. 

Surface Color

Dark blue, carried as close to the skin as possible.

Under Color 

Medium blue, lighter than the surface color. Sometimes called slate blue. 

Toenails and Eyes

Toenails colored.

Eyes blue-gray. 

 

Breeds That are Showable in the Blue Variety 

American, American fuzzy lop, English angora, French angora, satin angora, Beveren, Flemish giant, Havana, Holland lop, Jersey wooly, Enlish lop, French lop, mini lop, mini rex, Netherland dwarf, Polish, rex, and satin. 

 

Exceptions to the General Description

American Fuzzy Lop, English Angora, French Angora, Aatin Angora, and Jersey Wooly

Wooled areas are a lighter shade of blue than normal furred areas.

Beveren 

Color is light blue with a lavender tint. Eyes may have a ruby glow in certain lights. 

 

General Faults

Uneven color, hutch stain, brownish or rusty tint, faded or silvery color. Stray white hairs, mealiness, frostiness, or ticking. Light under color: Holland lop, English lop, French lop, mini lop, mini rex, and Netherland dwarf.

 

Breed Specific Faults

Flemish giant

Fault for ear lacing.

English lop, French lop, and Mini Lop

Fault for silver guard hairs.

Mini Rex

Fault for blue guard hairs not matching the body color.  

 

General Disqualifications 

Eye color other than blue-gray or unmatched eyes. White or unmatched toenails. Excessive scattered white hairs. White or foreign colored spots.  

 

Breed Specific Disqualifications

American

Uneven color, silver gray color.

Satin

White belly, ring color.
